Is negative self-talk getting in the way of you living the life you want to live?
If you’re like most adults, there’s a good chance it is. We’ve all been there from time to time and it SUCKS. Often, negative self-talk happens without you even realizing it. That’s where negative paradigms come into play, which we talk a lot about in PrimeMinds.
We tell ourselves we don’t deserve x, y, or z.
We tell ourselves “that’ll never happen” or “I won’t get there”.
The most important thing to realize about negative self-talk is your mind is telling you stories about yourself and your abilities… and they’re just that: stories. They’re FICTION.
When you’re constantly experiencing negative self-talk, it directly affects your results.
If you think that big thing that you really want to happen isn’t going to happen, it won’t.
If you think you won’t get that promotion, you won’t.
As Suzy Kassem said, “Doubts kill more dreams than failure ever will.”
On the flip side, if you think that big thing IS going to happen, it will. You know why? Because you’re actually going to make it happen: you’re going to take the steps to get there, and you’re going to move through them with peace of mind knowing you’re getting closer to your goal every single day.
If you think you’re gonna get that promotion, you will. It likely will not happen overnight, but it’ll happen because you’re gonna make it happen. Changing your mindset and having a goal in mind will change your results. You’ll be walking around the office with confidence, helping people out, excelling at your current position. Don’t be surprised when one day your boss takes notice and your new behavior based on your new attitude gets you that promotion.
I know reversing negative self-talk is easier said than done. But the first step is to be aware of it. Once you realize a lot of what’s holding you back is negative self-talk, it becomes easier to change it and move forward.
Remember, negative self-talk is part of what goes on in your head, but you can’t let it steal the show. You also have an amazing, compassionate side of yourself (a much bigger side!) that you need to practice having step in when your negative thoughts take up too much room at the table.
So when you catch yourself thinking things like “that’ll never happen for me” or “I’m not good enough”, I want you to form some kind of alert system in your head…
Or picture your own personal compassionate superhero swooping in when your negative paradigm starts showing up. 🦸
This takes practice, and again, a lot of it is easier said than done. But you got this. Do NOT let your negative self-talk define you. Remember: it’s fiction. You’re the real deal.
