When I first started visualizing, I didn’t know where to begin. It can feel kinda weird. I’d close my eyes for a second or two, see the thing I wanted, and then open my eyes again, kinda self-conscious… even though no one was even in the room with me. 🙄
But once I got it, like really got it, I was hooked. As it turns out, I just needed to master the technique, and it’s way simpler than I thought. Here’s how to visualize to start manifesting things into your life:
Step 1: Know what you want.
This might seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people attempt to start visualizing without fully knowing exactly what the thing is they want to visualize. For example, you can’t start with something vague, like “I want a better life”. Think of the actual thing or opportunity that would make your life better. Is it your dream job? Is it publishing your book or writing and producing music? Maybe it’s opening your own restaurant with your family’s recipes. Whatever it is, make sure it’s something you really want.
Step 2: Details, Details, Details
Now that you know what you want, it’s time to picture it in grand detail. If your vision is a new house, you wouldn’t picture just the front door, right? You gotta have the whole thing mapped out. How many bedrooms and bathrooms is it? What’s your favorite spot in the house, where do you spend the most time? Is it in the suburbs, a city, or are you somewhere in the mountains or by the beach? The more details, the better. Let your imagination run wild with this– play the role of the spectator and just let your mind paint that picture for you.
Step 3: Emotionalize Having It
If you’ve done this right so far, you should have a crystal clear picture of what you want. Now it’s time to get really emotionally invested in it. Let’s go back to the dream home visualization: how does it feel waking up in the morning in your ideal space? Who will share it with you? Will you have a housewarming party? How will it feel? Try to really feel those feelings as if that moment is your current reality.
Step 4: Repeat
The more you visualize something, the more invested you’ll feel, and the quicker you’ll make it come to fruition. Make a point to do this every day: even dedicating just 5-10 minutes to visualization in the morning, on your lunch break, in the shower, before bed, or whenever you can set aside some time to get lost in your visualization. This will really bring you closer to progress and achieving/obtaining the very things that you’re visualizing.
Most importantly, let it flow. Once you start envisioning something you like, go with it and see where it takes you!
As Denis Waitley said, “When you visualize, then you materialize.”
Remember, don’t get discouraged. Like any skill, visualization takes time and practice, no matter how straight forward it seems. The most important thing is to just keep trying!
